Our Team

Our legal team is led by Sunny Kalara, PhD.

Sunny is a veteran IP and Business attorney and has specialized legal and business experience with large international law firms, multi- media companies and emerging companies. He is a frequent lecturer and media commentator on legal and business issues.

Formerly, Sunny was with the law firm of O’Melveny & Myers LLP, in their Los Angeles office, where his practice was focused on IP counseling, business litigation and technology transactions. Prior to that, Sunny served as the General Counsel to Dreamtime Holdings, a multimedia company charged with monetizing NASA’s multimedia assets. He led the negotiations to forge an unprecedented partnership between NASA and the private sector to commercialize NASA’s IP assets.

As a business partner and general counsel to an incubator venture fund in Silicon Valley, Sunny assisted numerous startup companies with fund raising and provided legal advice on IP harvesting, corporate governance, and employment law.

In 2000, he co-founded Zenncomm Communication, a cutting edge communication venture, where the company acquired operating rights to a $280M communication satellite. During his tenure as the president and CEO, he effectuated groundbreaking partnership agreements with Boeing, NASA and the Kingdom of Tonga.

Prior to moving to California, Sunny was with the law firm of Vinson & Elkins in Houston, where his practice centered on patent litigation and complex software development & implementation agreements. He was one of the founding members of the Internet practice group and negotiated several significant outsourcing deals and digital media transactions involving online advertisement and content distribution.

Sunny has represented clients ranging from Fortune 10 companies to startups. In addition to his keen legal acumen and strong technical background, he brings to bear his business experience in achieving and exceeding his clients’ goals.

Sunny holds a Ph.D. in Physics from the University of Rochester, and J.D. from the University of Houston Law Center. He taught physics at Texas A&M University and has authored a book on the physics of Black Holes. He is licensed to practice before the US Patent and Trademark office and is a Certified Licensing Professional.

Sunny possesses extensive legal and technical expertise in the fields of software, digital media, communications, Internet and electronic hardware. Shan Thever, Special Counsel. Shan Theve is a well recognized leader in the Los Angeles legal community. He has extensive litigation and transactional experience. Over the years he has represented many government organizations, and has advised City Mayors, Council Members and City Managers on wide range of issues. With more than 400 litigation matters under his belt, he provides unique expertise to our litigation clients. A significant portion of his practice also includes counseling clients in Bankruptcy and real estate related matters.

He received the “Trailblazer Award” from the South Asian Bar Association and was honored by the United States Congress with commendations for his community involvement.

Shan received his B.A. (Cum Laude) from The University of California, Los Angeles and his J.D. from the UCLA School of Law.
